Honoring Coach George Houston
The Boozer Basketball Camp is proud to honor the legacy of Coach George Houston — a legendary Juneau-Douglas High School coach, mentor, educator, and one of the most influential figures in Alaska basketball history. Coach Houston played a pivotal role in shaping generations of athletes, including Carlos Boozer during his time at JDHS, through his leadership, passion for the game, and unwavering commitment to youth development in Alaska.
Coach Houston dedicated more than three decades to the Juneau basketball community, leading the Crimson Bears to multiple regional and state championships while mentoring countless players both on and off the court. Even after retirement, he continued investing in the future of Alaska basketball through camps, AAU programs, mentorship, and community involvement. His impact on the game — and the people around him — continues to be felt across the state today.
In recognition of his lasting legacy, $25 from every Boozer Basketball Camp registration will be donated to the Coach George Houston Memorial Fund through the Juneau Community Foundation. These contributions help support causes and community initiatives that Coach Houston cared deeply about, ensuring his passion for youth, mentorship, and basketball continues for generations to come.
